North Alabama becomes first NCAA baseball program to adopt UberDisplays’ Rubberized LED technology.
Within a single lifetime, we have seen the birth, growth and full adoption of LED technology in athletics—yet some outdated installation methods still remain. Traditionally, video displays have been installed behind nets, fences, plexiglass, or on distant walls. This setup disrupts the clean look of the LED display with glare, netting, or metal bars, and leaves players exposed to potential injury from sharp edges and hard surfaces.
This is why UberDisplays set out to move the technology forward. We knew that teams wanted a product safe enough for players to interact with directly on the field that could handle impacts from a baseball and maintain the visual quality that fans love about LED. Rubberized is our answer. Our patented rubberized mask preserves an impressive 126° horizontal viewing angle that ensures great visibility from nearly any seat, and can withstand baseball impacts of up to 80 mph. Additionally, when players do make contact with the LED display, the soft, pliable mask significantly reduces the risk of injury.
Rubberized is currently installed at two MiLB ballparks—Durham Bulls Athletic Park (home of the Durham Bulls) and Cheney Stadium (home of the Tacoma Rainiers)—and we are proud to announce that Rubberized has now made its debut in NCAA baseball at the University of North Alabama. Reflecting on the partnership, Andrew Rice (UberDisplays, Chief Revenue Officer) said, “UberDisplays is proud to partner with UNA Athletics on their new baseball and football stadiums. The new, state-of-the-art facilities will benefit from UberDisplays’ cutting edge technology of rubberized displays and best in industry customer service.”
By becoming the first NCAA program in the nation to feature Rubberized in their ballpark, UNA is sending a clear message about its commitment to player safety and the overall game-day experience. This milestone highlights the unique value of Rubberized in modern facility design. As UNA Director of Athletics Dr. Josh Looney notes, “We expect Mike Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium to set a new standard for college baseball venues at our level.”
UberDisplays is proud to see Rubberized helping redefine what is possible across our industry. This technology elevates the atmosphere for fans while maintaining product longevity and, most importantly, protecting athletes. Reflecting that same vision, Dr. Looney stated, “This innovation reflects our continued investment in elevating the fan experience and creating one of the most dynamic gameday atmospheres in college baseball.”
Mike D. Lane Field at Bank Independent Stadium will debut the new LED display during the 2026 season.
