Project Description

College Park Center sits at the center of one of the busiest sports markets in the country. Home to the UTA Mavericks across men's and women's basketball, volleyball, and soccer — and the WNBA's Dallas Wings — this 7,000-seat arena in the heart of the DFW Metroplex operates at a level that demands professional-grade everything. When the time came to replace an aging Daktronics system that no longer matched the ambition of the venue, UTA turned to Digital Resources, Inc. and UberDisplays to build something built for the future.

We designed and manufactured a complete LED overhaul of the entire arena: a new 4-sided centerhung scoreboard with custom V-corner extensions, a full-run LED fascia wrapping the bowl, an end zone display, courtside LED tables, stanchion displays, tunnel entrance screens over each vomitory, a 2.9mm lobby video wall, and a Hydra 8 outdoor marquee at the building entrance. Every in-bowl surface runs at 3.9mm — one pitch, one spare parts inventory, one consistent visual standard across the whole arena. That decision was intentional. A consistent pixel pitch across all in-bowl surfaces means the entire system feels like a single, unified canvas instead of a patchwork of hardware.

The project spanned six months of design and engineering, followed by a three-week installation. By the time the Dallas Wings tipped off their 2024 WNBA home opener, College Park Center had transformed into one of the most LED-dense arenas in the country at its size — over 16 million pixels inside the bowl alone, with a total of 17,968,896 pixels across the full system.

01 • Challenge

One Arena, Two Leagues, Zero Off-Switches

College Park Center doesn't get the luxury of a single tenant. The venue runs UTA Mavericks athletics through the fall and winter, then hands the floor to the Dallas Wings for the entire WNBA season beginning in May — and those two worlds don't overlap neatly. Each tenant has its own branding, its own production requirements, its own audience expectations, and its own league technical standards. The display system had to serve all of it without asking anyone to settle.

From a design standpoint, that meant the entire system needed to be built for flexibility from the start. The centerhung configuration, content routing, control system, and display geometry all had to work across multiple branding environments — not just technically functional, but genuinely optimized for both. NCAA game presentations and WNBA productions have different rhythms, different sponsor integrations, and different broadcast relationships. The hardware couldn't just accommodate that; it had to make it easy.

The timeline added another layer. The installation had to be complete and fully commissioned before the Dallas Wings' home opener — which meant coordinating a three-week installation window between the end of UTA's spring events and the start of the WNBA season. There was no buffer. When the Wings took the floor for the first home game, everything had to work.

The Result: College Park Center now runs seamless brand transitions between UTA Mavericks and Dallas Wings productions — two professional tenants, one display ecosystem, and a control system built to switch between them cleanly and quickly. The Wings' executive director described the upgrade as transforming the experience for their guests and event sponsors.

02 • Challenge

Engineering a Corner That Ends in a Single Pixel

The brief for the centerhung was specific and genuinely difficult: a four-sided display with V-shaped corner panels that taper continuously from full-width displays down to a single pixel at the point. Not a decorative aluminum cap, not a logo plate, not a workaround — actual LED, all the way to the tip, with no dead zones and no visible seam between the main panel and the corner.

There's a reason most centerhungs don't do this. Standard rigid LED cabinets are rectangular. You can assemble them into shapes, but you can't taper them. Getting to a single-pixel point requires custom flex LED modules engineered specifically for the geometry — modules that bend and conform to non-rectangular frames without introducing pixel gaps, distortion, or brightness variation at the edges. Each V-corner had to be individually engineered: the frame geometry, the flex module spec, the cabinet attachment method, and the content mapping all had to be designed around a shape that doesn't exist in any standard catalog.

The engineering process for the four corners ran alongside the rest of the project. We developed the geometry from the centerhung structure outward, working backward from the pixel-level requirement at the tip to determine panel configuration, trim design, and how the content pipeline would treat the corners as part of a seamless display surface rather than separate elements.

The Result: Each of the four V-corners tapers continuously to a single active pixel — no aluminum fill, no dark zones, no compromise. The finished centerhung reads as a single unified display geometry, with the corners carrying live content all the way to the point. It's one of the sharper engineering details in any arena install we've done, and it's completely invisible when you're watching the game — which is exactly how it should be.
