Project Description

UberDisplays partnered with Anthony James Partners (AJP) to deliver a large-scale digital signage expansion at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The project included more than 150 display installations across the 20+ acre facility, creating a unified communications network designed to support wayfinding, event messaging, sponsorship visibility, and guest engagement.

The system features more than 4,700 square feet of LED displays with pixel pitches ranging from 1.87mm to 3.9mm, along with more than 85 LCD screens installed throughout the venue. Key installations include a nearly 80-foot LED ribbon, 28-foot-tall vertical displays, curved architectural LED elements, and a 760-square-foot synchronized media hub in the Grand Hall.

Designed for a high-traffic convention environment, the project required coordination across LED manufacturing, display installation, electrical, low-voltage, and network infrastructure to deliver a flexible, venue-wide digital signage platform at scale.

01 • Challenge

Building the Nervous System From Scratch

Before a single panel went up, we had to wire the building for what it was about to become. The Pennsylvania Convention Center had no existing power or data infrastructure capable of supporting a display network of this scale. That meant designing and running conduit from the ground up — power circuits, data pathways, and controller connections — throughout a facility that was still open for business.

This isn't glamorous work, but it's the work everything else depends on. Get the infrastructure wrong and you've built a house of cards: panels that flicker, zones that drop signal, controllers that can't talk to each other cleanly. We treated the infrastructure phase the way we treat the panels themselves — engineered for reliability, not just for opening night.

The result: A clean, purpose-built backbone that feeds every display in the network, delivers stable signal to the controllers, and is designed to grow into Phase II without having to tear anything open.

02 • Challenge

150+ Displays. 2.3 Million Square Feet. Nobody Going Home.

Here's a number worth sitting with: 2.3 million square feet. That's the footprint of the Pennsylvania Convention Center, and it hosted events throughout the entire installation. There was no shutdown window, no quiet month where we had the place to ourselves. We were mounting panels and pulling cable around active conferences, trade shows, and public events — and the displays had to come up right the first time, because there's no room for a do-over when a convention is checking in the next morning.

The scale also meant that placement decisions mattered enormously. A 79-foot digital ribbon in the Broad Street Atrium. Three 28-foot vertical screens flanking the escalator run to the upper floors. Curved LED wrapping intersections at key pedestrian junctions. Every location was a judgment call about sightlines, traffic flow, and structural reality — and every panel had to integrate cleanly with the infrastructure we'd already laid in Challenge 01.

The result: Full installation completed in phases without a single event disruption, with every display zone live, calibrated, and operational on schedule.

03 • Challenge

Impact Without Interruption: The Grand Hall

The Grand Hall was the final phase of the install, and in a lot of ways it's the one that says the most about what this project actually required. Convention centers don't have blank walls. The PCC has distinctive architecture — a building with real character and a design identity that Philadelphians recognize. The displays couldn't fight the space. They had to belong to it.

The Grand Hall became a synchronized media zone: approximately 760 square feet of wall-mounted LED, designed to work together as a unified canvas. The challenge wasn't just getting the panels up cleanly — it was engineering the layout, the mounting geometry, and the pixel density so that the displays enhance the architecture instead of competing with it. When it's off, the space still looks like the Grand Hall. When it's on, the room transforms.

This kind of attention to fit and finish is what separates a good LED install from a great one. It's also why we were brought in to oversee the full project from panel manufacturing through final commissioning — because when the venue is this prominent and the architecture is this specific, you can't afford to figure it out as you go.

The result: A synchronized display environment in one of Philadelphia's premier event spaces — visually striking, architecturally respectful, and built to perform for years without the facility having to think about it.
